:April:
The pond glimmered and wavered in the moonlight. Millions of the small fireflies flashed on and off above the water. The fronds around the pond swayed back and forth in the soft wind that carressed them.
April padded up to the side of the pond and looked into the waters depths. Through all the small little lights she could see her reflection. Her long pointed nose and brown eyes. Her sepia fur lay flat on her head. She smiled softly to herself.
April lifted her head and glanced over her shoulder, seeing if Rianna was behind her.

Rianna followed April all the way to the pond. When they arrived around the pool of liquid that was now shining silver with the reflection of the moon she looked at it, her eyes twinkling with delight. It was a beautiful pond and the fireflies only added to its elegance. She sat on the edge of the pond and looked over at April in amazement.
"It's beautiful April!" she gasped. She looked down at her own reflection. In the light of the pond she looked beautiful. It seemed her scars of beatings had disappeared and the dull lifeless look in her eyes was replaced by the reflection of the moon and a twinkle that had only just appeared tonight. She smiled. It was great to be free.

April smiled to herself, happy that she had shown her new friend something that she liked. "I knew you'd like it! she said happily with a thump of her tail. Now she turned to look up at the bugs that danced above the water. They flew around in the fronds and over the pond. They were magnificent with their small blinking lights. It seemed as if some of them were playing tag too. April would watch one go up to another one and then the one that it went up to would race of to find a different firefly. April flicked her tail on the ground happily. She liked the night so much better then the day.

Rianna didn't know what to do rather than just watch the fireflies and admire the beauty of everything all around her. Never had she been to two beautiful places such as these in one night. Never had she been the any beautiful places for that matter.
Her tail moved back and forth swishing through grass. Her tongue lolled out as she panted happily. It was a night she wanted to never end and she was sure she would always remember it.

:April:
The fae closed her eyes in pure joy and instead of using her eyes to see, she used her ears. She caught the sound of the fronds swaying and the crickets humming. She felt as if she could hear the moon, a soft echo in the deep blue sky. The trees leaves that surrounded the area spoke too, rustling together. Some dogs would fear this stuff and they thought the night was creepy, but April was exactly the opposite. She loved nights on warm spring or summer days. She loved the smell of the night, it smelled cold, actually a little bitter.
April shivered happily, letter her body shake and her shoulders move up and then back down. She slowly opened her eyes and gazed up into the sky.
Off in the distance to the east a small patch of the sky was brighter. It was only a matter of time before the sun peaked out from the horizon. The fae sighed. The night was ending and along with it would be her peace and quiet.
She turned her head to her companion and smiled. Rianna had been a great find. Was it destiny that had brought the female to the other female that night? Maybe the two of them could go exploring together tomorrow...

Rianna once again positioned herself comfortable. Her paws crossed in front of her and her head lying atop her paws. She kept looking at her reflection in the water. She had never seen herself like that. It was as if being in the wild had freed her of her past and yet it still haunted her mind. She couldn't help but notice how different she looked now. She closed her eyes for a brief moment, relaxed knowing that she was with April.
When she opened her eyes it had gotten only a little lighter out, still leaving it pretty dark. The sun was coming up soon.

:April:
Without thinking about it, the fae lowered herself to the ground and lay there with her paws stretched out infront of her. Her tail thumped on the ground. Soon enough she found herself lowering her head to her paws and resting it there. Her tail thumping slowed to a rythmic beat.
The song of the crickets and the moons light slowly fading away and mixing with the suns was to much. They beat her tail was giving off mixed with it and made everything so tranquil. April's eyelids slowly drooped closed and before the fae knew it she had passed on to the dream world.
The city glowed brightly. Lights shined brilliantly, blocking out the moonlight that wanted so much to shine upon the people for that was what it was there for, correct? The streets were busy with screeching cars and people rushing. All was in a rush.
April found herself staring up bewildered at the city above her. Her old city had been nothing like this. The paths to walk on were never crowded and the streets always had only a few cars passing by. And you could always see the moon. April shook her head. This wasn't right, the moon comforted her. She shivered, the coldness creeping all the way down her spine and into her paws and tail. She felt cold.
And then it changed. A blaze of red and a swirl of smoke could be seen in the distance past a magnificent glass building. The redness grew, and flourished preying on anything in its path. The smoke billowed and bit at April's fur, tinting it gray. A cough sputtered out of her mouth. She had to squint her stinging eyes so that she could see.
It wasn't long until the fire had swarmed all around her. It touched everything except for herself. She looked around her at the remaints, at the ash that covered the sity. Her mouth hung open in awe.
April tilted her head to the sky and searched through the smoke for the moon. It was found only through the billowing smoke barely noticable.
A mournfull howl rung through the air and April jumped. Her heart pounded inside her chest. Her eyes searched the area but didn't find anything. No movement was seen.
And then there was movement. Images of dogs flooded around her, growling and snapping at her. She jumped back with a yip as one got to close. She found she had jumped back into the mouth of another dog though. Theeth closed around her tail and she screeched, her cry echoing into the night air.
April opened her eyes to find her body covered in sweat. She didn't no it, but she had actually screeched out loud. Her heard beat rapidly inside of her chest. She glanced around her. The sun was just barely up. She hadn't slept for long. Her eyes glanced around her wildly and they fell upon Rianna.
April heaved a great breath to calm herself. Her heart slowly stopped beating so hard and her eyes grew smaller and less wide. She shivered, remembering her vivid dream. The city, the fire and then the dogs.

Rianna had noticed her friend had drifted off to sleep and not being one to wake another up she lay there comfored and relaxed. She looked back on the events of the day, particularly her time with April. April was her one and only friend. They had become quite close in the short time they were together. She was becoming lost in her thoughts when a small shriek made her sit straight up, ears perked, fully alert. She looked over at April. "Are you okay?" she asked, a little shaken. "What's wrong?"
Rianna had had a good enough amount of bad dreams to know that this was one and it was a particularly bad one in which case you are actually harmed in your dream. Every single one of Rianna's dreams were of beatings she had had in the past making them even harder to experience because she actually had experienced them so it was like reliving the worst part of her life. She bent down and looked at April hoping to comfort her. She layed down and layed her head on her friend's neck, resting ther in a tiny hug-like position, wanting to calm April down.

:April:
April was breathing hard, her breaths coming in short rasps. The dream had been so vivid... so real... She could feel the burning red of the fire heating up her fur and she felt the bite close around her tail.
When April calmed down she lifted her head, accidentally knocking Rianna's head off the soothing position where it lay on her neck. She didn't notice though. She lifted her tail into the air and brought it close to her eyes. No, no teeth marks and no blood. She was OK.
April thought about her dream, she had never experienced anything like that before. Weren't dreams usually something you experienced that day? There was one thing that April could relate to her dream, that burnt down city. In her mind when the city was all ash she had called it 'The Ashen City'. Nothing could relate to the load of nasty dogs though, unless somehow she thought Rianna was mean? She shook her head, knowing that wasn't right.
In that time of thinking she had forgotten Rianna was next to her. She just sat there, mentally racking her brain for ideas, searching. She didn't give Rianna one glance.

Rianna lifted her head off of April's neck as April lifted her head. She watch April look at her tail and do other things in confusion. She knew it must be in some relation to the dream. Perhaps she had hurt her tail in the dream. Rianna watched April being sure to stay close in case she needed someone. Rianna always needed someone with her in order to feel any comfort after a bad dream.
When April never answered her Rianna was a tad worried.
"April?" she asked looking at her. "Are you alright?" she was concerned for her. It was a terrible thing to be that spooked by just a dream.

:April:
The sound of the words came to April's ears, but she couldn't make out what Rianna had said in her confusion. April turned her head to her friend and looked at her with saddned eyes. "Hm?" she asked in a faraway tone. Her thoughts were still on the smoke that had billowed high in the sky.

Rianna was glad that April had finally responded. Yet her eyes still seemed distant as if she weren't fully there yet. She repeated for the third time, "Are you okay?" she asked a little louder and slower than before. The sun was starting to rise and it was now morning. The pond appeared much lighter now.

April shook her head back and forth slowly. She needed some time to think on this. Her thoughts were a jumble of images in her mind. "I-I don't know..." she said quietly.
She shut her eyes tight and held it there, trying hard to make the dream come all the way back. She couldn't though. The only things she could remember were some quick flashes of a fire, the burnt city and a large group of dogs. April kept shaking her head, as if telling herself no...

Rianna nodded. At least April was answering her now. She layed back down and shut her eyes. She was not falling asleep just resting, once again going through the previous day in her mind. She had stayed up all night with April. They had become real good friends.
She opened her eyes to see April laying down with her eyes closed. Rianna sighed. She hoped April would be alright.

:April:
April let out a deep sigh. Nothing was coming back to her. She glanced up at the sky, the sun up now and the moon fully gone. She looked at the pool of water that glimmered brightly. No fireflies sparkled in the reflection. The wind had died down too, and the fronds were no longer swaying. April sighed, everything seemed so lonely.
The fae turned her head to her friend and decided to speak. Maybe somehow Rianna could comfort her. "I think I dreamt about that burned down city," she started, her eyes peering at Rianna. She wanted to see how the female would react to her words. If it would be just a nod, a confused expression or something else.
