The almost full moon hung in the sky, stars dotting the velvet black sky that was all around it. The moorlands were full of moonlight. The grass shone silver instead of the usual tan and the few trees that dotted the distance seemed like they were lit up.
A silhouette of a dog sat on one of the many hills that spotted the moorland. The dog sat tall and straight, her tail was neatly wrapped around her paws. Her head was tilted up and her eyes stared at the moon and its beauty. Her sepia fur - like the grass - seemed silver instead.
What a mysterious thing. It shines like those silver coins the humans carry around and trade. And such a small object lights up everything around me. It's to amazing.
April sat in thought. She often took the time to notice things that other dogs didn't. Just this morning she noticed how beautiful a butterflies wings were. April was like the moon; she was just as mysterious.

Rianna padded softly up and down the hills of the moorlands. Her legs were getting tired. But she looked into the distance and at all the beauty around her which gave her the determination to keep going. She had no goal she was merely walking. Then she saw another dog in the distance.
Rianna was a friendly dog and any oppurtunity to make a friend she would take. She rushed down the hill she was on and headed towards the other dog.
"Hi!" she said coming up the hill towards the dog. Uphill was always the worst and she felt like she was moving in slow motion. When she reached the top she sat down next to this new dog and smiled.

April was surprised at the dog coming over to her. She hadn't seen another dog around here since she had been here. April glanced over her shoulder as if she thought she would see practically a whole pack come to ambush her. Her eyes were wide, but after she saw no one, she calmed down a bit. She sighed and then looked over at the female. She managed to get a smile to fall on her face.
She thought about this dog, it was most likely that she was only here to make friends with her friendly expression. Although, April couldn't seem to push from her mind the thought of an ambush. Somehow she could feel other dogs close by, whether it be in that burnt down city or just waiting out of sight.
April tried to remain calm though, she was being to paranoid. She rolled her shoulders and took a deep breath. "Hi" she with a voice as sweet as honey.

She noticed the dog's uncomfortableness and felt bad. She hadn't meant to scare her or make her uncomfortable. She gave another soft, sweet smile and then the fae spoke. It was a start. Maybe she wasn't all that uncomfortable.
"I'm Rianna. " she said happily.
Now was the time when conversation usually started and the friend making began but Rianna just sat there awkwardly. Finally as she looked over the sparkling landscape she thought of something to say.
"It really is beautiful here at night." she said looking around. The silvery grass and the trees in the distance. It was truly a beautiful sight.

April's eyes softened at the mention of the landscape. She loved the beauty. The grass, the sky, the moon mostly. April turned towards Rianna. "I'm April," she said softly. Her head then turned back to the landscape.
It was silent for only a moment. April couldn't stop herself. "I love it out here. It makes me feel safe, like the moon is keeping me safe and the black sky is blanketing me. I dunno. I feel like I'm different because I take the time to see things and admire things that some dogs don't." April was struck that she let so much information about her just fly out of her mouth. It kind of felt good though, to talk about how you felt and have somebody listen to you.

Rianna nodded as she listened to April speak. Rianna was one to notice a beautiful thing when it looks her in the eye. She looked over at April and was happy that they had met.
"It's a shame that some dogs take things like the beautiful moon and night sky for granted. I think beautiful things like that should be appreciated. she looked over at April then up at the starry midnight sky.
"I'm glad I met someone who knows a beautiful thing when she sees it." she said looking all around her at the sparkliness of the moorlands. Then she felt kind of wierd for saying stuff like that. She looked at April and smiled nervously wondering if April thought she was wierd.

A genuine smile fell upon Aprils chops. Her eyes sparkled. She too was glad to have met Rianna and she was glad she was able to share her thoughts so freely. She looked up sideways at the moon with the smile curled on her face. She felt like tonight could last forever, she felt that she wanted it to last forever.
It was so perfect with the silvery moon and dotted stars. The silver glow on everything the light touched. And then Rianna, somebody to talk to. To speak freely with. It was all so perfect like the moon. All so great. Her brown eyes turned to Rianna and she spoke what she was thinking, "I'm glad I met you too. I know that sounds cheesy, but I've never met another dog who takes things like this the way I do. It's nice to know that there are dogs like me out there..." Her voice tailed off at the end and her head and eyes had turned to the grass beneath her paws. It fel soft and warm, unlike it should, unlike the rough feeling it should be giving off. Tonight was to good to be true.

Rianna listened to her words and glad that she wasn't thought wierd, grinned happily. Her neck was getting tired of looking up so she laid down and rolled over onto her back so her stomach was up and she could look at the moon all night.
"Look at those stars!" she said in wonderment. "I have never seen so many, and they're so clear and bright." she said looking up at them her eyes wide. Her owner never let her outside of the house except for when she was on what she believed to be the shortest chain in existence. She would often look up at the moon and think about the free dogs alive and she would cry her eyes out. But laying down was not an option when on the chain. It was much too short and unless she wished to strangle herself it was not happening.
She pushed the thoughts of her past out of her head though. Tonight was beautiful and ugly thoughts like that were not welcome.

April nodded her head silently. She didn't echo Rianna's movements of rolling on her back though, she was much to withdrawn to be that comfortable, even if Rianna and April grew so close that they were the best of friends.
After awhile April's mind started to linger to the burnt city. She thought of how a fire must a rampaged through the whole thing. She thought of how when the first was moving, the smoke would have covered the sky and the moon couldn't light your way. She shivered at the thought of not being able to see the moon above you. What if smoke still lingered in the city and the moon and stars could just barely be seen?
Aprils eyes looked down at Rianna and she asked a question she had been dying to ask somebody ever since she had laid eyes on the burnt city, "Do you know if anything lives in that burnt city? April realized that it probably was random to Rianna, but definalty not to her. The silence had started to irk her anyways. She wanted another conversation to start up.

Rianna rolled over onto her stomach now so she was lying in a much more comfortable postion for talking. She looked up at April. The silvery grass covered her back but she didn't mind it much. She thought back to passing that creepy, ashy city. She had dared not enter it then but the temptation had been driving her mad.
She shook her head. "When I passed the city I got the faint scent of other dogs but the ashen smell was so overpowering that who knows. " she said wondering if there actually were dogs living there. "I don't know if anything lives there." she said all the time wishing she did. She wondered that if there were dogs living there, how they lived with that ashy stench 24/7. She guessed they probably got used to it after a while.

April gave the same slow and silent nod she gave before. And as if she read Rianna's mind she said, "I don't know how any dog could manage living there. I can almost smell that horrible stench from here."
April could imagine being inside that place, the smokey smell clogging her nose so that she could breath. And then it would get in her throat and she'd cough until she couldn't cough any more. After only a bit of breathing in that stuff she'd lie dead on the ashen floor of the city.
April shook her head, clearing the nasty thought from her mind. She wouldn't ever step foot in that city she decided. Atleast not now.

She looked up at April. It was as if she were reading Rianna's mind. "I know!" she said surprised that April had been thinking the exact same thing she had. "I'll tell you one thing, I certainly don't look forward to stepping one foot in that city." she said in a matter of fact tone.
Her thick tail thudded on the ground as it happily wagged. She was so happy to be making a friend. And one that she cna talk to. She rarely ever got this far into a conversation with a dog. Usually she might get nervous. She's not a shy dog, actually rather outgoing but conversation was not her best attribute.
She sat up and shook the silvery pieces of grass off her coat. The shaking must have made her lose her balance or something because she slipped and started down the hill. When she reached the bottom she was embarassed yet that had been a fun ride. She laughed so hard her stomach started to hurt. Then she looked up at April and shrugged. "That was fun!" she said chuckling.

:April:
April totally agreed with Rianna about not wanting to step a foot into the city. She didn't let her thoughts wander back to what it would be like though.
April noticed, but didn't really awknowledge that Rianna was falling down the hill until she was more then half way down. April gasped and jumped to her feet, ready to save Rianna if need be. When Rianna reached the bottom though and started to laugh April sighed with relief. She herself started to laugh. Nervously at first, but then it became a full laugh, running over the moorland. April's body shook with her laughter and her eyes shut and all that was left were small slits. Just the sound of Rianna lauging with her made her want them both never to stop laughing.

Finally her laughter started to die down. She wiped the tears that formed on her eyes from laughing so hard and looked at April. She stood up, brushed the grass off her coat once again and then headed back up the hill. This time it didn't seem to take that long as now she knew that she would be welcomed by April. When she reached the top she layed back down and sighed.
"Well.. that was interesting." she said chuckling a little. The moonlight shone down on the two friends lighting them both up like silver so they matched the beautiful grass.
It was a good night and Rianna didn't wish it to end.

:April:
April's laughter slowly subsided. Her eyes sparkled as she watched Rianna climb up the hill and lay down once more. April sat back down on her haunches and heaved a happy sigh.
She chuckled a bit more along with Rianna when she spoke and said, "We all have those kinds of moments." A great big smile spread across the fae's face and her tail had started to swish back and forth happily, sweeping the grass as it did so.
April let her gaze once agian wander to the moon that shone brightly on the two of them. She took in the silver with her eyes and drew in a deep breath. Like she had thought already numerous times, she thought again that tonight was perfect.
